Oreo Truffles

Friday 17 October 2014

I feel cheated. Are they taking the mickey? They should be. They certainly are.

This week is "National Chocolate Week". Smile, you are on camera.

Seriously??

Does anybody in his right mind need such a simple and stupid excuse to eat chocolate? That’s insulting. My intelligence feels underestimated. Yes, it´s true, I eat LOTS of chocolate. But I'm not dumb. In fact, a recent research from Columbia University suggested regular cocoa intake led to improved mental function. I should be extremely intelligent then.

Some people avoid eating chocolate aiming a balanced diet. I am also keen on having a balance diet, this is why I eat dark and white chocolate equally.

But that's not the only kind of chocolate I eat. Because a diet based in just 2 products is hardly going to meet the national nutritional standards. This is why I also eat chocolate brownie, hot chocolate, triple chocolate tiffin, chocolate cheesecake, bourbon biscuits, choco chips muffins… I even use chocolate shower gel!!!

Definitely chocolate is the answer. Who cares what the question is?

And this is why there is almost nothing in life able to make us feel happier, satisfied, complete and beloved that a piece of chocolate. Or a bar of chocolate. Or a couple of them. Stinginess has no place when talking about chocolate.
To ease you into the oh-so-chocolaty mood, this week´s recipe is a truly delicious and easy to do Oreo truffles. Because chocolate is for life, not just for Christmas.

WHAT DO YOU NEED

2 Oreo Biscuits Packets
1 Cream Cheese Pot
1 Cooking Milk Chocolate Bar
1 Cooking Dark Chocolate Bar

Some wooden picks

WHAT DO YOU DO

Mash the biscuits. Tip: if you don’t have an electric crusher, put the Oreo biscuits into a freezer bag and, using a rolling pin, crush them into crumbs.

Put them in a large bowl and mix with the cream cheese. Mix with your hands until the mixture is smooth.

Cover a food container, a wire rack or a tray with greaseproof paper.

Make small balls of the size of a big marble and poke a wooden pick up to the centre of the ball. Put them in the food container leaving some space between them.

Freeze for a couple of hours.

Melt the chocolate in the microwave. Dip each ball and put the balls back in the food container. Remove the wooden pick carefully.

Decorating options are endless: sprinkle some sea salt, hundreds and thousands, chopped nuts or edible glitter over the truffles. You can also sprinkle some Oreo biscuits bits or use some of the remaining melted chocolate to create beautiful patterns on top of your truffles.

Refrigerate for 20 minutes until the chocolate harden.

Put the truffles in mini paper cases and eat before someone else do. Additionally, you could recycle and old chocolates box and use it to display the truffles or give it as a personalised gift.

  3. These look delicious! Can you give the approximate proportions (as weights) for the cream cheese and Oreos for those of us in the US who will buy the cream cheese in different packaging? I can't wait to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Hi! Thanks for your comment!!! They are delicious indeed!

For the cream cheese, around 200gr will be fine. As per the oreos, around 150gr.

If you finally try it, please let me know the outcome!

    1. Delicious! Used 19 Oreo cookies and one 8 oz (226 g) package of cream cheese. I put them in the freezer so we wouldn't eat them all
