Mint Butter Biscuits

Friday, 1 July 2016

A week has gone since the referendum results were revealed. Over the last week, I've been reading lots, discussing with friends and family the different options. I must admit on Friday morning I was sad and confused. I was scared of speaking in Spanish in public spaces. I didn't want to talk to anybody. I was concerned about my children going to school. I got insulted in the street. I was told to stop sticking my nose in other country's business. I was asked to shut up. I was told I had no right to share my thoughts.

When 4 years ago we decided to move to the UK we did it full of hope, dreams. Thinking we were moving to an open, resilient country full of  opportunities for those who were willing to work hard towards them.

I can assure you that no one has the word "immigrant" in their "things to accomplish in life" list.

Raspberry & Cream Roly Polys

Thanks everyone for your nice emails and messages after last week entry. They really comforted me. The surgery went very well, the staff was unbelievably nice and friendly and it didn't hurt that badly (little voice in my head saying “I told you”).

However, I'm a wimpy person, and I busted into tears as soon as the nurse said my name. At least they didn't ask me to wear one of those foul hospital gowns. Thanks NHS for that!

Biscuits & Chocolate Birthday Cake

Happy birthday to me!

I'm turning 34 today. 34. Twentytfourteen.

I always have mixed feelings when my birthday is approaching. I'm happy, but I also feel sad. I know I've been lucky enough to live for a whole year but that also means I'm a year older. This always ends up with me feeling a bit miserable the week before, pretending I'm feelingless the previous day, and overexcited as soon as the sun rises on the 12th. Don't blame me, I'm a Gemini.

This morning I've woke up being 34th years old, and I say this without cringing. 34, wow. That is a lot of years!

Madeleines or Earl Grey Biscuits

Friday, 21 November 2014

Hello.

Today I would like to talk with you. You, who are in the street, at home, on the bus, in the park, having a coffee, in a break, in the loo, waiting for someone, snuggling in your bed before falling asleep. With you, who are in the UK, in Spain, in America, in Australia, in Japan, in France. With you, who every Friday wait for our recipe, who receive our emails, who have just found us by accident, who only look at the pictures. To all of you who are there, looking through this peep-hole that is the Internet, enjoying with my recipes, laughing at my crazy stories, being a silent part of my life.

Today, I would like to talk too with those of you that find this blog quite boring, who think that the recipes are so-so, that the pictures are just ish.

Pistachios, Walnuts and Dried Apricots Cottage Biscuits

Cooking with the family is one of the best things to do in Christmas time. In the kitchen, everyone is relaxed and conversation flows from one subject to another.

Is cooking when most intimate secrets and wishes are shared. Where the great family anecdotes are remembered. And where the most amazing discoveries are made.
